After driving in some icy conditions last night with my car not taking it very well, I am done with all season tires and I’m going to shoot for winter tires. I was going to search on Tire Rack, but a 1-star out of 5 rating came up on Consumer Affairs. I was wondering if anybody here had good experiences with Tire Rack?

I've bought a set of Contis from them in the past year. Delivered in less than 2 days. No problems.

FWIW, all of my experiences (although limited) have been positive. Ordered a set of wheels/tires and other sets of tires with no issues.

I’ve bought through them, but my local shop will now price-match them so I don’t have to wait for the shipping, haha.

I bought tires through Discount Tire on their eBay store. They had a $100 promo, plus rebates, plus free shipping. Might be worth checking there as well.

I’ve had nothing but great experiences so far, having ordered several sets of tires from them.

Contact Luke Pavlick, he’s a good dude there.

Ordered 2 sets of tires from them to ship here in Canada and everything went perfectly as planned. The price was hard to beat too.

Personal experience? I’ve had only one transaction with them; no problems whatsoever.

Consumer Affairs isn’t the kind of site that attracts satisfied customers. I’d look to TR’s eBay profile for a more accurate representation of customer satisfaction: The Tire Rack

I ordered a set of winter tires and steel wheels from them two years ago. Had them shipped to the nearest garage and had them installed.

Two co-workers also ordered from Tire Rack in the past 3 months for snow tires and wheels and also had no problems. They are absolutely trusthworthy and reliable.

Not to mention, Consumer Affairs is worthless. Seriously, look at literally any company on there. They’re all like 1 or 2 stars because the only people that post there are those that had bad experiences.

I’ve always had good luck with them. The only times my orders have been held up were when they wanted to confirm that I really wanted a tire much wider than stock.

Not always the cheapest, but almost definitely the most trustworthy and responsive (customer-service-wise) on-line tire seller. I’ve had very positive interactions with Tread-Depot as well, but they don’t have as many warehouses and don’t ship as fast as TireRack.

Three sets of tires, one set of wheels, all good. I had one replaced under road hazard warranty; it was a bit of a paperwork hassle, but it worked out in the end.

Tire Rack also has a strong presence on a lot of model forums; I’m thinking particularly of miata.net and S2KI. A lot of very informed suggestions there, seems like they do their homework and publish it, not just sell stuff.

To contrast about the warranty: the Costco Tire experience for road warranty was awesome, just go in and they replace the tire, but they have a limited selection, and some folks here have had bad experiences with scheduling there.

I know quite a few people who have and it has been good every time. One guy had trouble with a return but still worked out a lot cheaper than the Kal Tire next door.

I ordered a couple different sets of tires from Tire Rack back in the day, but I haven’t bought anything from them since a Discount Tire opened up near me. They have the same selection, if something’s not in stock they’ll order it for you, and they price match online stores even with coupons.

The last set of tires I got at Discount Tire were General Grabber AT2s for my Grand Cherokee. Right now Tire Rack is selling them for $135/each + $124 shipping + whatever you pay your local installer. Road hazard warranty is extra.

Discount Tire, after some finagling with finding the cheapest price online, and some more finagling when they wanted to sell me the road hazard warranty and offered to knock off some other costs if I took it, I got the 4 tires mounted & balanced with free lifetime rotation and road hazard warranty for $650.

So yeah, it takes a little haggling, but as long as you’re comfortable with not just going in and say “I want to buy these tires and will pay your price,” you’ll end up with a solid deal. They also have patched multiple tires for free for me over the years, and are generally decent to deal with.

Oh, and if you buy snow tires from them and put them on their own set of wheels, they will switch your snow and non-snow wheels in the fall and spring for free. You just have to store them.

I order from tire rack constantly. I have a moonlight tire shop at home and install tires for friends and family all the time. I regularly get from TireRack and DiscountTireDirect. Tirerack shipments usually arrive next day. I have no idea why they would be rated low on Consumer Affairs, but remember that most people only file complaints, not praises. I’m here to praise them. Customer service is always good and their selection is fantastic.

Tirerack will even dropship directly to my garage when other people order so people don’t have to lug their new tires to me.

Where are you located?

I bought a set of Contis from them in April. The site’s comparisons and reviews were great for choosing my tires, the prices were good, and I was able to pick them up next day at the warehouse (saving myself the $50 shipping). I plan on using them again.

I know a few rally teams used them last year for the surprise snowstorm at 100 Acre as well. Snow tires within 48 hours

I’ve bought 4 sets of either PS2s or Super Sports from them - no issues.

The jokers who have installed them at places like Discount Tire? Not so much...

Luckily, I’ve found the local Cadillac dealer is surprisingly cheap, and much better than anyone else.

Tire Rack is awesome, and the reviews for their installers is spot on.

You can have tires shipped to Tire Rack authorized shops just for installation so you dont have to worry about transporting them yourself.

My friends shop is on there, we’ve looked at the reviews and theyre spot on with how Im used to being treated when I put my client hat on over there.

Bought my Eibach lowering kit from them, and got a good deal. The dealership where I work uses the wholesale side for tires all the time. IF you order tires AND rims, they mount and balance them for free before they ship.

I bought a set of struts through them. I had them shipped to a place in OGdensburg NY that holds shipments for Canadians. Tire rack was very good in that they offered to hold up the shipment if I couldn’t make it down in time to collect them without racking up additional fees.

I ordered some Dunlop Direzzas from them. Had them shipped to an installer. No fuss no muss. Main reason I bought on Tire Rack was the size and summer tire combo isnt common in stores. Not sure if I saved much money however.

I’ve bought many sets of tires from Tire Rack - never had an issue at all.

Crazy that shops let you ship to them and have them installed - usually the install prices are less then their normal mount/balance prices. And the tires are usually cheaper then the shop you’re having them installed at.

I am just going to say they are the tire supplier for one of the brands we carry and the dealership I work at. We will not use that Brand’s tire program because of them. From what I heard, they are hard to deal with, terrible support, and even after telling them we will never use their service, they still berate with phone calls. Any way my Manager can’t stand them... So yeah.

If you’ve got one near you I would head over to an America’s Tire (or Discount Tire) store. They offer better prices than Tire Rack with no shipping costs. They also have some seriously knowledgeable salesman who will be able to help you pick the best tires.

Another good word here, I ONLY get my tires from TireRack. Also, might I recommend General Altimax Arctic for winter tires on a budget. I love mine!
